My Career as Model (it lasted about two hours)

In the 1980s I ran an Adventure Playground in London. It was a charity with a committee made up of volunteers all of whom had their own day jobs and careers. For a while, the committee was chaired by a lady whose day job was in media and public relations. She had a successful career and, among her clients, was Littlewoods, which had a long history but which may not exist anymore.

One day, the media and public relations company was let down by the model they had booked. I got a call at the Adventure Playground and was asked, if I could get to a photographic studio just off Oxford Street in London in one hour, I could have a modelling job. I jumped on my bicycle and made it to the studio to model a Littlewood’s barbeque apron and chef’s hat. I expect they were preparing their summer catalogue.

As you can see from the picture and letter, I was “such a great model”. Quite why I never got any other modelling jobs is unclear. That said, as two hour careers go, it was very successful.
