Shree Somnath Jyotirling Temple

The temple at Somnath is a sacred pilgrime site for Hindus and is the first among the twelve jyotirlinga (a devotional representation of Shiva) shrines of dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple has suffered repeated destructions by multiple Muslim invaders and rulers but has also been repeatedly reconstructed.

Security considerations meant no mobile phones, which means no cameras too, could be taken into the temple so there aren’t any of my pictures. You can see some pictures of the temple on their official website here. The picture above is by B. SurajPatro1997 (and very nice it is too).

The temple is located by the sea at Prabhas Patan, Veraval in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat. After visiting the temple, if you can, find some time to enjoy the sea views.

You can view the temple’s website here and its Wikipedia page here.
