Kindertransport

My mother and her sister, my aunt, aged 15 and 17 respectively, were on a Kindertransport out of Vienna, Austria in January 1939.

The Kindertransport was a British scheme to rescue nearly 10,000 predominantly Jewish children from Nazi occupied territories. There are a few links at the end of this page if you want to read more about the Kindertransports.

In addition to family, gratitude is expressed to World Jewish Relief and Dr Amy Williams for the provision of these documents and papers. And those that organised the rescue!

Departure: my mother’s Kindertransport document
Arrival: Harwich
Requires no visa……my aunt’s Kindertransport document
Arrival at Harwich and Aliens Registration two or three weeks later
All letters are equal but some are more equal than others….
Incredibly important…..extremely grateful

Listed to live: the following are lists of some of the children to leave Vienna on Kindertransports, including my mother and aunt.

Not all lists are equal……
Thank you, Mrs Schwab (grandmother of Rabbi Julia Neuberger)
